Based in the South Luangwa, Zambia, the Mulberry Mongoose workshop is nestled alongside a well-trodden elephant path. The team consists of seven local craftswomen and one local craftsman. They specialize in repurposing poacher’s snare wire, fashioning it into purposeful jewelry that weaves a compelling narrative, bridging the realms of fashion, conservation, and rural employment in Zambia. This transformative process, turning brutality into beauty, defines their work.
Drawing inspiration from the Zambian bush, Mulberry Mongoose’s designs interweave snare wire with indigenous materials like seeds, wooden beads, and semi-precious stones sourced from around the world. With the sale of each piece of jewelry, they contribute to anti-snare patrols in Zambia. To date, they have raised over $119,000 for conservation efforts since 2013.
